Welcome to the revolution at REVCOM.US. Where you learn why we need a revolution … what this revolution involves … what kind of society this revolution aims to bring into being … and who is the leadership for the revolution.
This week we cover everything from the conference of the world’s rulers in Glasgow, Scotland to supposedly save the planet from the devastating environmental catastrophe that already rages out of control … to the horror that U.S. imperialism has wreaked in Haiti, its fallout today and the threat to once again intervene … to the fascist drive to clamp down an even more violent and repressive form of ruling over and repressing the people be it in the drive to outlaw abortion or the ongoing strengthening of the fascist threat here and here. In all of these, a core message: the world cries out for total change.
But we are told not only by the rulers of this system but by all too many who pose as radical opponents of the way things are to go for all kinds of solutions that stop short of, or deny, the basic truth recently put forward by Bob Avakian, BA, the revolutionary leader and author of the new communism:
In order to transform society to put an end to the injustice, oppression and exploitation that is built into this system, and is grounded in its mode of production, it is necessary to break the back of its system of state power, its violent rule over society (the dictatorship of the capitalist‑imperialist class), and establish a new system of power, a socialist state power (the dictatorship of the proletariat), in order to radically transform the economic base, the corresponding social relations, and the political and ideological superstructure as a whole, toward the goal of uprooting and finally abolishing all relations of exploitation and oppression, everywhere. (From “Why The World Is So Messed Up, And What Can Be Done to Radically Change This—A Basic Scientific Understanding”)
“Anything but that,” these proponents of “radical reform” say. Why not just abolish the police and prisons instead, they say, while we set up “safe spaces” within this society? Why not just vote “socialism” into office? And why do we need a new state power anyway, if the ultimate goal is the full emancipation of humanity not only from all exploitation and oppression, but also ultimately from state structures themselves? Why not just have workers control the factories instead?
In the past few months, BA has taken on these programs—showing why they cannot solve the problems humanity faces, and how communist revolution—new communist revolution—can. We have gathered these articles on two panels on this week’s site—"New and upcoming articles at revcom.us from Bob Avakian, Revolutionary Leader, Author of the New Communism" and "Bob Avakian (BA) argues against people pushing reformist schemes and illusions..."—and we urge you to get into these articles and spread them. And sign up here if you want to be part of discussing these articles—especially if you are someone new to this revolution.
What makes these articles from BA so especially urgent now is that that they come at a time in which there is the REAL and extremely rare possibility to actually ripen a situation in which a real revolution could be made right here in the U.S., the most powerful capitalist-imperialist country in the world (and by far the greatest source of horror, suffering and despair on the planet). To understand that possibility, we urge people to read—whether for the first time or the fiftieth—the two ground-breaking pamphlets that make the case on this and give guidance on how to make what is today a possibility into a planet-saving reality in this rare time. These are A Declaration, A Call To Get Organized Now For A Real Revolution put out by the revcoms, and This Is A Rare Time When Revolution Becomes Possible—Why That Is So, And How To Seize On This Rare Opportunity, from Bob Avakian.
We also want to call particular attention to some of the other articles in this issue—notably "No Compromise with Female Enslavement! ABORTION ON DEMAND AND WITHOUT APOLOGY!" by Sunsara Taylor and the piece from the environmental working group critiquing the recent analysis put out by the Sunrise Collective—for taking on other false paths that would keep us locked within the terms—and the rule—of this system.
So get into these recent works from Bob Avakian, and read the other articles in this issue as well. Spread them. Learn about this revolution, and its vision, strategy and leadership. And get in touch. There is no time to lose.
