This ruling on the abortion pill mifepristone is ILLEGITIMATE! It is an escalation of the assault on women’s rights and very lives! You are right and righteous to be out in the streets to protest this assault today. It comes along with attacks on immigrants, Black and Brown lives, and LGBTQ persons. So, for all of this, we need to go further—to get to the root of this and to put an end to it.

Speaking to the decades-long attack on abortion rights by a Christian-fascist movement, the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian has said:

The attack on the right to abortion is a move to further intensify the already horrific oppression of women, denying them control of their lives and their very bodies, reducing them to breeders of children, cruelly subordinated to men and a patriarchal male-supremacist society. Forced motherhood is in fact female enslavement.

This is a “rare time” when those who rule over us are deeply divided in a way not seen since the Civil War, and the country is being ripped apart, with Republicans moving towards a full-out fascist form of rule, and the Democrats fighting for the way things have been. They cannot resolve these deep divisions and “hold the country together” on the basis of the “normal way” this system has operated—and in any case, that “normal way” is full of oppression, destruction, and the real danger of wiping out humanity. 

Over decades, the Democrats have never mounted any serious opposition to the assaults on abortion rights. Bob Avakian has also said:

Instead of being a tail on the Democratic donkey—with its attempt to keep this monstrous system going, and to deal with the growing fascist danger, by relying on the “normal procedures” of this system and doomed efforts to “heal the divisions” that are deepening every day—people need to work for the revolution that is urgently needed, and deal with the fascist danger as part of doing that.

WE DON’T HAVE TO LIVE THIS WAY! We Need Revolution—Nothing Less!

This revolution will not only stop this fascist danger but bring into being something truly emancipating. Imagine if abortion and birth control were available to all women without stigma or apology. Imagine if everyone learned the scientific truth of reproduction, pregnancy, and abortion so that never again could so-called “holy men” prey on people’s ignorance to heap the weight of tradition, the shackles of forced motherhood, and the suffocation of shame on women for exercising these most fundamental rights! This is possible and is further spelled out with a concrete blueprint for a different, truly emancipating society in the Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America.
