Last Tuesday saw Democratic Party victories in key races across the country: from Zohran Mamdani winning the mayoral election in New York City, to Prop 50 winning in California. (Prop 50 was a response to moves by the Trump regime to get Republi-fascist led states to "gerrymander," i.e., redraw their electoral maps to get fascists more seats. This California proposition could result in five more Democratic Party seats in Congress.)

Whatever particular questions were at issue, this election represented a mass repudiation of Trump/MAGA fascism. At the same time, this has fed deadly illusions that "there will be a blue wave in 2026 which will beat Trump in the midterms."

This represents a dangerous and profound underestimation of what we are facing, and what's needed. The hard, but liberating, truth is that our only hope in defeating this is a force of millions—concentrated in Washington, DC—creating such a "political earthquake from below" through sustained nonviolent protest interacting with the deep splits within the dominant institutions of this system, such that Trump is drive from power.

Here, we are going to draw on our previous coverage and the work of the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian to speak to four essential truths in response to these delusions:

Essential truth #1: There is NO LIVING WITH this fascism.

As Bob Avakian said in his major statement, The Time Is Urgently Upon Us Now—To Drive Out The Trump Fascist Regime!: 

Every day this is driven home more and more forcefully and cruelly: There is no living with this Trump/MAGA fascism—it must be removed from power before it commits even more horrific atrocities and forcibly shuts down any real possibility of resistance.

Just in the last two weeks, look at what Trump has done: building up a deadly repressive apparatus aimed at shutting down all opposition and dissent, mass immigrant kidnappings, threatening the world with nuclear war, forcing millions to go hungry, unprovoked murders of civilians in international waters based on his say-so and much much much more. 

Trying to slow this down, while waiting for the 2026 elections, is not just impossible, it's immoral.

As Sunsara Taylor, a co-initiator of Refuse Fascism and co-host of The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show, said recently, "There is either going to be a fascist America, or we are going to defeat a fascist America!"

Essential truth #2: Trump is already moving to steal the next election.

Trump and the MAGA fascist regime are already working overtime, and from many different angles, to rig and steal the next election. He has repeatedly said he intends to do this, and he pardoned hundreds of insurrectionists who were part of trying to steal the 2020 election!

Essential truth #3: "If things are approached as Democrats vs. Republicans—and the question is reduced to how can the Democratic Party defeat the Republican Party electorally, on the terms of ‘how things are done under this system’—that will utterly fail to deal with the very real, and rapidly accelerating, horrors of the Trump fascist regime."

For why this is so, dig into Bob Avakian’s social media message REVOLUTION #134: “Play by the rules” and lose—succumbing to a fascist horror, far beyond even the worst of today—OR, do what needs to be done to drive out this fascist Trump regime.

And: 

REVOLUTION #119: Democratic Party politicians may contribute to the crucial struggle against Trump/MAGA fascism—but the Democratic Party will not, and cannot, lead this struggle where it needs to go. 

Essential truth #4: The Christian fascists feel their rule is existential... and it is, for humanity.

This fascism is deeply rooted and these fascists feel they are on an existential mission to remake every single aspect of society. They are in a race against time and feel that this is their "last chance" to hammer in their fascist agenda before they lose their grip on America as a god-ordained white Christian nation. And the profound and urgent truth is that this is existential, for the people of the world. Again, from Bob Avakian:

If this fascist regime is allowed to remain in power, everything that decent people have felt they could rely on to seek justice will be brutally shut down...every uplifting moral value will be reviled and repressed...every sphere of society will be remade, in terrible ways, in line with the male supremacist, anti-LGBT, white supremacist and anti-immigrant cruelty and the anti-scientific, health and climate destroying madness of the Trump fascist regime and the bloodthirsty ravings and depraved violence of fanatics heading “the department of war,” with the deranged maniac Trump having his finger on the nuclear button.

Every vision, and every active striving, for a better, more just world, for a future worth living in, will be violently suppressed and effectively foreclosed, at least for the foreseeable future. Driving out the Trump fascist regime is necessary, possible and humanity's only hope.
