The World Humanity Needs, the Revolution We Must Make, and Revolutionary Internationalist May 1
Welcome readers, new and old. This is your guide to navigating Revolution this week.
This week we get into the fight for abortion rights, the war in Ukraine, the scientists’ strike against environmental destruction, and the refusal of the authorities to indict the police who murdered Amir Locke in Minnesota. We use videos and articles to shed light on what’s happening with these events, why they are happening, and how they relate to the revolution we need.
Along with our companion platform, The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show on YouTube—which people should watch every week and, if possible, get together in groups to do so—we aim to not only enlighten but to be the “scaffolding” on which a movement for an actual revolution, at the soonest possible time, can be built. As that scaffolding, we also let you know what the Revolution Clubs in different parts of the country are doing, what these clubs are all about, and how you can participate with and become part of them.
But the most important thing we do on this site every week is to feature the work of Bob Avakian, or BA, the most important political thinker and leader on the planet today. You can go here to understand why we say that. And this week we have something new from Bob Avakian to announce: an interview in which BA applies the scientific and emancipatory framework of The New Communism, which he has authored, to global—and existential—problems affecting billions of people across the world. This new interview covers climate change, migrants and refugees, journalism and press freedom, the exploitative global “supply-chain,” class and other social relations, and human rights. In doing so, what is vividly brought forth is how a new revolutionary state power, guided by the overall principles and concrete policies from the Constitution for the New Socialist Republic in North America, would tackle these excruciating contradictions and problems. BA’s approach stands in sharp contrast to those seeking change within the current system of capitalism-imperialism—a system which has no real answers and, in fact, is careening toward catastrophe. We’re going to serialize this interview beginning this week, and at the same time, we’re also providing a link for those who want to dig into the whole thing right away. This is deep grappling with real-world problems—and what could be done if humanity were freed from the shackles of capitalism-imperialism and the suffocating, sickening, murderous relations between human beings that it generates, requires and reinforces.
Making Revolution—in a Rare Time in Which Revolution Could Be Made
But how to get to a world where humanity could set to work on these problems for real? This leads to the other critically important work that we feature from BA: a talk he gave late last year that provides a foundation from which to understand the situation today and from there goes on to develop a road map to actually make revolution in this time. That talk is "SOMETHING TERRIBLE, OR SOMETHING TRULY EMANCIPATING: Profound Crisis, Deepening Divisions, The Looming Possibility of Civil War—And The Revolution That Is Urgently Needed. A Necessary Foundation, A Basic Roadmap For This Revolution." Go here to listen to, or here to read this crucial talk.
May 1, 2022: Get Ready
This new interview, and this major talk, have particular meaning as we head toward May 1. May 1 is the worldwide revolutionary holiday of the exploited and oppressed and all who hunger for justice. May 1 is a day when we not only protest exploitation and all forms of oppression, but assert our humanity and solidarity with people all over the world, and declare our determination to make revolution to break all tradition’s chains. May 1 is a day we struggle against narrow ways of thinking that keep us locked in this box and so-called “solutions” that solve nothing.
This year, on May 1 in Los Angeles, and in New York as well, people will come together in events that will be part of carrying forward the most important thing we here in the U.S. can be doing right now as our part in this worldwide struggle: “bringing forward a revolutionary people, from among the most bitterly oppressed, and all parts of society, first in the thousands and then in the millions, as a powerful revolutionary force, organized from the start and consistently with a country-wide perspective, impacting all of society and changing the terms of how masses of people see things and how every institution has to respond.” (From "SOMETHING TERRIBLE, OR SOMETHING TRULY EMANCIPATING" by Bob Avakian)
It is fitting and important that these bold May 1 demonstrations will take place at this time—a time when whether there will be a future at all and, if there is, what kind of future it will be, presses down hard on people. In Ukraine, where Russia launched a savage invasion nearly two months ago, the imperialist bloc headed by the U.S. now takes advantage of that to wage a “‘war by proxy’ with Russia—providing massive amounts of arms to Ukraine and waging economic warfare (in the form of ‘sanctions’) against Russia, while heightening the military ‘readiness’ of NATO countries, in particular those bordering or close to Russia.” (from “The Fog Of War, The Clarity Of War,” by Bob Avakian) This has raised the specter of a civilization-destroying nuclear war. Because this is so dangerous to all of humanity—and because people here are being played and manipulated into supporting this proxy war—we are raising two slogans this May 1:
NO US/NATO WAR WITH RUSSIA! NO WORLD WAR 3!
IT’S THIS SYSTEM, NOT HUMANITY, THAT NEEDS TO BECOME EXTINCT!
WE DON’T ACCEPT THEIR FUTURE
IT’S TIME TO GET ORGANIZED FOR A REAL REVOLUTION
These slogans need to be taken out to masses of people, drawing sharp dividing lines with the way that people have been conditioned to think about and respond to what is happening there, debating things out, and drawing people forward. The days leading into this May 1 should be a time to rally a force that stands firmly for the internationalist stance these slogans embody and on May 1 needs to make an impact on society with these slogans.
In the days to come this week, we’ll be posting more information on this—including a poster for this May 1. Be sure, as well, to tune into the The RNL—Revolution, Nothing Less!—Show on YouTube to hear more, this Thursday evening.
“Fight the Power, And Transform the People, For Revolution”
This May 1 comes at a time when women, and those who support them, are rising up to demand that their humanity be recognized. Within the U.S., where the Supreme Court aims to overturn the right to abortion in a few short months, demonstrators again took to the streets this past week. These demonstrations were marked by determined groupings of youth in different cities. In this issue we cover those demonstrations and the other ways people are moving to act to STOP this outrageous attack on women from happening.
Also last week, a scientists’ rebellion rang out in different countries with a powerful indictment of the powers-that-be and their headlong, profit-mad destruction of the environment. We cover that rebellion and interview a scientist who participated in it.
We cover as well the bitter news of the refusal of the system to indict yet another murdering cop who killed yet another Black human being—in this case, the young man Amir Locke, sleeping in his bed when the police invaded his home on a no-knock warrant.
This May 1 will bring those and other critical struggles together, here and around the world, and show the links of them all to revolution. And this new interview from Bob Avakian will draw you into the world we need, where we could begin to work on and solve these problems.
