From a reader:
On Friday, October 22, hundreds of students of all genders at Archbishop Riordan High School1 in San Francisco walked out of a presentation being given by an anti-abortion speaker. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that only “a few dozen of the school’s 800 students remained in the theater for the entire presentation.”2
Claire Iballo, a senior, said, “It’s been so hard to go from an environment of female empowerment to someone telling me what I can do and can’t do with my body.”
The Chronicle reported that “Ashley Coleman, a senior, said she was compelled to walk out when (the speaker) began comparing the number of abortions in the U.S. to deaths in the Holocaust.”
This righteous walkout of hundreds of high school students comes at a time when the right for women to choose to have an abortion is under attack across the nation, has effectively been abolished in Texas, and there is a distinct possibility that the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn its Roe v. Wade decision that constitutionally protects abortions.3
